NOVEMBER 2023

ALUMNI RESPONSE!

Greetings Friends:

In October, LVC alumni and supporters hosted and participated in Zoom conversations to discuss how they can support LVC's future. The Board and staff will review alumni commitments at a November meeting, then convene alumni who made commitments to clarify ways to work together on next steps. Here are highlights:

  1. Number Registered = 79 (Attended) -- DC 19(4), DC reunion 10(unknown), Twin Cities 23(4), Seattle/Tacoma 11(10), Seattle reunion 7(3), Milwaukee 9(4)
  2. Alumni Commitments -- fundraising, local support, recruitment, storytelling, skills inventory, social media, strategic planning
  3. Alumni Comments -- fundraising, viability +/-, recruitment, communications, placements, social justice, interest areas, trends

The team at LVC appreciates alumni and friends who facilitated conversations, and everyone who joined in. To those of you who have already started advocating on behalf of your beloved LVC to raise funds and boost recruitment, THANK YOU! Financial support is one HUGE way to keep the experience of intentional community and service alive, and you can read the impact on one LVC fellow as she shares her experience below.  Thank you in advance for your gifts this holiday season.

HOLIDAY GIVING!

For this season of giving, some of you have been curious about how alumni can help fundraise.  Alumni interested in fundraising have LVC's holiday giving season as the perfect opportunity to invite donations from your circle of family, friends, colleagues, and intentional community -- or just make that stretch gift of your own.  We're happy to send you e-flyers and postcards to send around to multiply your own donations if you find that useful.

LVC FELLOW: JULIANA SCHIFFERES at GOVERNMENT ACCOUNTABILITY PROJECT

LVC is the answer to many of the professional, spiritual and justice-related hopes and ambitions for early to mid-career individuals focused on justice work. As a placement resource designed to accommodate the curious and altruistic, its interest in cultivating community takes many manifestations–from community dinner nights, to group learning opportunities over Zoom. The labors of love that can go into preparing meals or presentations for group learning has been a transformative experience. Despite the challenges along the way, I appreciate opportunities to expand my comfort zone.

And as the Education Associate at the Government Accountability Project, I also find myself challenged constantly. That is a good thing–I’m excited to explore new intellectual horizons and widen my analytical and writing skills. The Government Accountability Project represents whistleblowers in court and administrative settings, while also broadcasting their disclosures to the wider public. There, I work on communications materials and even write case summaries for legal cases. I am so indebted to LVC for placing me there, and for all the continued learning along the way. I sincerely hope LVC will place more Fellows in just as interesting placements, granting us bright futures, all in pursuit of meaningful justice.
